One Step Closer

It was great having the kitchen packed up! This meant we were one step closer to being  D O N E  with the whole process. Jesus knew I needed to at least share our moving scenario with a few. They were His love and light to us these last few days! We received boxes from one friend, another came to help keep me on task while packing, one provided us with our last supper, and yet another who was planning to come and do our last clean after we left. With their help I was able to keep breathing.

Our plan again was similar to the first go around, load the truck Thursday night once Ryan was home from work then Friday morning the kids, dogs, birds and I would leave and Ryan would drive up after his full day of work.

BUT… Thursday morning after one last sweatfest (remember it was August in PA and we are schlepping/cleaning/weeding etc.) I headed in for a shower. I was really looking forward to a few minutes of calm and cool-me-down-ness in the lovely claw-foot tub/shower but after being in for maybe 1.5 minutes (because I had already started to wash my hair) water began spraying everywhere except from the shower-head! Seriously. Another issue? Yes. Ugh.

Goodness? Mmm…

As you can see in the picture the pipe disconnected at a crucial point making it impossible to finish the shower or draw water into the tub to try to rinse off. I did the best I could with whatever water I could catch in a cup and in those three minutes I decided I was going to be driving off as soon as we were done loading the truck that evening. Enough is enough. At least I had a bed and a shower at the lake house.

Thankfully the truck was loaded without much hassle and off we went a g a i n but this time, for the last time. We were set to arrive close to midnight with the ability to shower and sleep! And, whoop whoop the painting will be done too, right?!?

Turns out, even with a near midnight arrival Audrey and I could see “Marco” did not do all we asked on our list and as ridiculous as this sounds, he actually cut around some of the (still weren’t removed) switch plates with the WRONG COLOR.

I was no less tired at this point than any of the other times when we needed to address other unexpected issues. Tired of thinking. Tired of talking. Tired of trying. So very tired.

Clearly I wouldn’t be calling the owner of the paint company at midnight but come morning a call would be made and it will be remedied. I actually decided when I called to explain this unfortunate situation a g a i n, I was going to ask for an additional room to be painted to help justify our payment and all the hassle it’s been thus far. I felt safe asking, not expecting perfection (for I have learned our standards are polar opposite) but I trusted, if they were willing to do the job it would be done correctly because I would be present the entire time while the painter was here.

The call on Friday morning went well, the owner was apologetic. With my inquiry of their willingness to gift us this additional room he let me know “Marco” would be coming back the next day which was the day we would be unloading the truck. Well sure, great, thank you (right?), why wouldn’t we add a little extra chaos into the move-in day.

This was the room which will now be Audrey’s and if you know her well, these colors aren’t really her jive! It was going be weeks until I got around to painting it so my asking of the painters to gift painting this room was a surprise for her. She r…

This was the room which will now be Audrey’s and if you know her well, these colors aren’t really her jive! It was going be weeks until I got around to painting it so my asking of the painters to gift painting this room was a surprise for her. She really wanted to have her space “sorted” by the time school was starting which at this point was T-4 days!
